My Son is a popular sightseeing attraction in Vietnam. It is considered the counterpart of other Indian Influenced civilization, such as Angkor Wat in Cambodia and Lo Pagan in Myanmar, among others.
My Son, located 69 km southwest of Da Nang, was an imperial city during the Cham dynasty and a centre for spirituality and worship between the 4th and 12th centuries. My Son Sanctuary has been listed in the World Heritage site for its fantastic display of Cham architectural achievement, and hence is one of Vietnam?s top tourist attractions.
My Son Sanctuary is a large complex of religious relics that comprises more than 70 architectural works. Only 25 vestiges remain today as a standing witness to the reign of Chapa Dynasty. These are temples and towers connected to each other through complicated red brick design, to reflect the divinity of the king.
The main component of the Cham architectural design is the tower, built to reflect the divinity of the king. All of the Cham towers were built on a quadrate foundations and each comprises of three parts: a solid tower base, representing the world of human beings, the mysterious and sacred tower body, representing the world of spirits, and the tower top built in the shape of a man offering flowers and fruits, birds, animals, etc., representing things that are close to the spirits and human beings.
